Athletic Injury Treatment

At Bergen Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation Center, we specialize in the care of acute, chronic, and post-surgical athletic injuries. Our clinicians use a combination of evidence-based treatments, including manipulations/mobilization, soft tissue treatmentsexercise rehabilitation, Radio pulse Frequency (Shock Wave Therapy) and advanced kinesiology taping/strapping techniques in the care of the symptomatic problems our athletes face. We also use assist in athletic recovery with devices including NormaTech compression gear, Cold Laser, Game Ready compression icing and functional myofascial techniques aimed at assisting in the removal of metabolites and improving soft tissue glide

SPINE & POSTURAL DISORDERS

Neck Pain and Headaches

Frequently caused by a combination of joint and muscle problems. Headaches caused by muscle and joint problems in the neck frequently demonstrate a “headband” or “question mark” distribution or originate at the back of the head (suboccipital region). At Bergen Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation Center, we use a variety of soft tissue (FAKTR, Graston Technique, Active Release), manipulation/mobilization, and rehab procedures to relieve the symptoms and stabilize the region.

Disc Herniations

Disc herniations occur when the threshold of cartilage surrounding the soft cushioning center is exceeded and “leaks” out creating irritation to the nerve at that level. This can cause leg pain known as radiculopathy or as many people say, “sciatica”. At Bergen Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation Center, we use focus on disc pain relieving techniques including Low Back (Lumbar) traction and specific rehab exercises known as McKenzie exercises. When appropriate a variety of soft tissue (FAKTR, Graston Technique, Active Release), manipulation/mobilization, and rehab procedures to relieve the symptoms and stabilize the region.

Lower Back Pain

Frequently caused by a combination of joint and muscle problems. Pain can be focal to a small region, across the low back, or refer to the upper buttock region. At Bergen Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation Center, we use a variety of soft tissue (FAKTR, Graston Technique, Active Release), manipulation/mobilization, and rehab procedures to relieve the symptoms and stabilize the region.
sacroiliac pain: In athletic cases sacroiliac pain is frequently caused by as specific lift or activity (deadlifting, kicking with the same leg, bowling, running and single leg jump sports). At Bergen Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation Center, we use a variety of soft tissue (FAKTR, Graston Technique, Active Release), Muscle Energy Techniques to correct pelvis joint issues, and when appropriate manipulation/mobilization, taping techniques to relieve pain and assist with ROM and rehab procedures to relieve the symptoms and stabilize the region. Patients tend to notice immediate improvement following treatment.

Rotator Cuff Impingement

More Info

Rotator Cuff injuries and impingement are caused by a number of biomechanical imbalances. In particular, poor shoulder blade movement (scapular dyskinesia) during arm movement, laxity to the ligaments of the front of the shoulder (anterior capsule), tightness of the back ligaments of the shoulder (posterior capsule), rotator cuff imbalances are some of the common causes. At Bergen Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation Center, we use a variety of soft tissue (FAKTR, Graston Technique, Active Release), manipulation/mobilization especially to the thoracic spine and scapula, taping techniques to relieve pain and assist with ROM, modalities including Radiopulse Frequency (Shock Wave Therapy) and Cold Laser and rehab procedures to relieve the symptoms and stabilize the region.

AC Sprains

More Info

AC sprains, also known as shoulder separations, are caused by trauma to the ligaments that connect part of the shoulder blade (acromion process) and the clavicle (collar bone). This can happen by falling on the shoulder. At Bergen Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation Center, we use a variety of soft tissue (FAKTR, Graston Technique, Active Release)taping techniques to relieve pain and assist with ROM, rehab procedures to relieve the symptoms and stabilize the region and when appropriate manipulation/mobilization especially to the thoracic spine and scapula.

Tennis/Golfers Elbow

More Info

Carpel Tunnel Syndrome/Nerve Entrapment

More Info

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a mechanical compression that occurs at the wrist. While most Carpal Tunnel problems do not require surgery, when atrophy or motor deficit on EMG is present, surgery may be required. Conservatively, most CTS problems resolve and are found to be just as effective as more aggressive procedures. At Bergen Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation Center, we use a variety of soft tissue techniques but find Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) to be the most affective when combined with verve flossing techniques, rehab procedures to relieve the symptoms and stabilize the region, and modalities including Cold Laser.

Trigger Finger

More Info

Trigger Fingers occur when the tendon does not track properly through the fascial slips in the hand and fingers catching and giving a snapping presentation. Early in presentation, trigger fingers respond well to conservative treatment. Later in presentation (months to years after onset) treatment may be affective, but more aggressive treatments including injections and surgery cannot be ruled out. At Bergen Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation Center, we use a variety of soft tissue (FAKTR, Graston Technique, Active Release)rehab procedures to relieve the symptoms and stabilize the region, and modalities including Cold Laser.

De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis

More Info

(thumb tendon inflammation) is a repetitive strain injury associated with athletics that frequently over use the thumb/hand. DeQuervain’s is a condition which is a true inflammation between the tendon and tendon sheath. At Bergen Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation Center, we use a variety of soft tissue (FAKTR, Graston Technique, Active Release)taping techniques to relieve pain and assist with ROM, rehab procedures to relieve the symptoms and stabilize the region, and modalities including Cold Laser.

Plantar Fasciitis is similar to a tendon injury, and presents as pain at the heel or bottom of the foot. Frequently, the pain is worse with first steps in the morning or getting up from prolonged sitting. While this is a common condition with runners and athletes, it is also common with pregnancy patients. People commonly associated this condition with “flat feet”, but high arched feet can experience this problem as well. Ankle Sprains

More Info

Ankle Sprains are one of the most common injuries seen in athletes. They may present with swelling, bruising and pain over the injured ligaments. These injuries are commonly treated with immobilization and rest. At Bergen Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation Center, understanding the latest research we look at these injuries more aggressively. Frequently we can remove swelling that is causing pain on the injured ligament and begin active care including soft tissue treatments and rehab. Icing is only used in the most severe of cases. The taping techniques developed by Dr. Doerr ensure stability of the injured ligaments prevent further strain to the ligaments.
