Appointments & Your First Visit
Do I need a referral to schedule chiropractic care?
No. You do not need a referral or prescription to schedule chiropractic care at Bergen Chiropractic.
If you’re interested in physical therapy, a prescription is required. See our Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation FAQs below for more information.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your first appointment includes a consultation and comprehensive evaluation so we can better understand your symptoms, health history, movement, and goals.
Your chiropractor may perform orthopedic and neurological examinations, discuss their findings with you, and develop an individualized treatment plan. Treatment may also begin during your first visit if it is suitable for your condition.
Why is my first appointment longer?
New patient appointments are approximately 45 minutes because we take additional time to understand your health history, evaluate your condition, discuss our findings, and establish a treatment plan.
How long are chiropractic appointments?
Follow-up appointments typically take around 15 to 20 minutes, although the length of your visit can vary depending on your treatment plan.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Bring your identification, insurance information, relevant medical or imaging records you have been asked to provide, and information about medications or previous treatment that may be relevant.
You can also complete our New Patient Forms before your visit to help save time when you arrive.
Insurance & Payment
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Bergen Chiropractic is currently in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and Omnia plans, as well as Medicare plans.
We also work with many out-of-network insurance benefits. Bergen Chiropractic does not participate with Medicaid or HMO plans.
Because benefits vary between policies, contact our team if you have questions about your specific insurance plan.
Can you verify my insurance benefits before my appointment?
Yes. Our team can verify your coverage and help explain your benefits before your first visit. Verification of benefits does not guarantee payment by your insurance provider.
Does Bergen Chiropractic accept CareCredit?
Yes. Bergen Chiropractic accepts CareCredit as a financing option for eligible healthcare expenses.
Visit our CareCredit & Financing page to learn more about using CareCredit at Bergen Chiropractic and to access current information directly from CareCredit.
Can I use CareCredit with health insurance?
CareCredit is separate from health insurance. Eligible patients may be able to use it for certain out-of-pocket healthcare expenses that remain their responsibility after insurance.

Chiropractic Care
What conditions do chiropractors treat?
Chiropractors commonly evaluate and treat musculoskeletal concerns involving the muscles, joints, and related structures.
At Bergen Chiropractic, we work with patients experiencing conditions such as:
- Back and neck pain
- Sciatica
- Headaches and migraines
- Shoulder, knee, and joint pain
- Sports injuries
- Work-related injuries
- Postural strain
- Pregnancy-related discomfort
- Limited mobility and movement-related pain
Your treatment recommendations will depend on your individual evaluation and condition.
Is chiropractic care safe?
Chiropractic care is generally considered safe when provided by a licensed chiropractor. Treatment begins with an evaluation so your chiropractor can determine which techniques are suitable for your condition, health history, and needs.
Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?
Most patients experience relief after a chiropractic adjustment rather than pain. Some people may notice temporary soreness after treatment, particularly when beginning care.
If you experience discomfort during treatment, let your chiropractor know so the technique can be adjusted for your comfort.
Will I hear a popping sound during an adjustment?
Sometimes. The popping or cracking sound that can occur during an adjustment is generally caused by a change in pressure within the joint and the release of gas.
A sound is not required for an adjustment to be effective, and not every chiropractic technique produces one.
How many chiropractic visits will I need?
There is no set number of chiropractic visits that applies to everyone. The recommended frequency and duration of care depend on your condition, how long symptoms have been present, your response to treatment, activity level, and recovery goals.
After evaluating you, your chiropractor can recommend a care plan based on your individual needs.
Are chiropractic adjustments the same for every patient?
No. Chiropractic treatment is adapted to the individual. Your chiropractor will consider your condition, age, comfort, health history, symptoms, and treatment goals when determining the right approach.
How do I find a chiropractor near me in Bergen County?
If you’re searching for a chiropractor near you in Bergen County, consider factors such as location, services offered, provider experience, insurance participation, and whether the practice can support your specific condition or recovery goals.

Ready to Get Started?
Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation
Does Bergen Chiropractic offer physical therapy?
Yes. Bergen Chiropractic provides in-house physical therapy with a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy, allowing patients to access chiropractic and rehabilitation care within the same practice.
What's the difference between chiropractic care and physical therapy?
Both can play a role in musculoskeletal care, but they use different approaches.
Chiropractic care often focuses on joint function, mobility, and musculoskeletal concerns. Physical therapy commonly uses targeted exercise, mobility work, strengthening, and rehabilitation to improve function.
The right approach depends on your condition, and some patients benefit from combining chiropractic care and physical therapy.
Can I receive chiropractic care and physical therapy together?
Yes. When appropriate for your condition, chiropractic care and physical therapy can be used together. Having both services at Bergen Chiropractic allows our providers to coordinate treatment around your needs and progress.
Do I need a prescription for physical therapy?
Yes. Bergen Chiropractic currently requires a prescription for physical therapy.
It may be provided by your primary care physician, a specialist, or, for established patients, one of our chiropractors if physical therapy is appropriate for your condition.
Do you provide post-surgical rehabilitation?
Physical therapy can support recovery following certain surgeries. Your rehabilitation plan will depend on the procedure, your surgeon’s recommendations, and your individual recovery needs.
Contact our team to discuss whether Bergen Chiropractic is the right fit for your post-surgical rehabilitation.
Can physical therapy help me return to work, exercise, or sports?
Yes. Physical therapy can help rebuild strength, mobility, stability, and functional movement following an injury, surgery, or period of reduced activity.
Your rehabilitation plan can focus on the specific activities you need or want to return to.
Sports Injuries & Active Patients
Do you treat sports injuries?
Yes. Bergen Chiropractic works with athletes and active individuals experiencing sports-related injuries and movement concerns.
Treatment can incorporate chiropractic care, physical therapy, soft tissue techniques, therapeutic exercise, and other rehabilitation approaches based on the injury.
What types of sports injuries do chiropractors treat?
Chiropractors may help manage a range of musculoskeletal sports injuries, including:
- Muscle strains
- Sprains
- Joint pain
- Overuse injuries
- Mobility restrictions
- Recurring movement-related discomfort
More serious or acute injuries may require medical imaging or specialist evaluation before beginning chiropractic treatment or rehabilitation.
Do I need to be injured to see a sports chiropractor?
No. Active patients may also seek care for mobility restrictions, recurring discomfort, movement concerns, or problems that interfere with training and physical activity.
Can chiropractic care and physical therapy help me return to sports after an injury?
Depending on the injury, chiropractic care and physical therapy can form part of a rehabilitation plan focused on restoring mobility, strength, stability, and functional movement.
Your return to sport should be based on your individual recovery rather than a predetermined timeline.
How do I know when a sports injury needs professional assessment?
Consider having an injury assessed if:
- Pain is persistent or getting worse
- Movement is limited
- Swelling is not improving
- You cannot walk or use the affected area normally
- Symptoms return when you resume activity
Severe pain, significant swelling or deformity, inability to bear weight, loss of sensation, or other concerning symptoms may require prompt medical evaluation.
Can physical therapy help me return to work, exercise, or sports?
Yes. Physical therapy can help rebuild strength, mobility, stability, and functional movement following an injury, surgery, or period of reduced activity.
Your rehabilitation plan can focus on the specific activities you need or want to return to.
Pregnancy & Chiropractic Care
Can I see a chiropractor while pregnant?
Chiropractic care can be provided during pregnancy when suitable for the individual patient. Your chiropractor will consider your stage of pregnancy, symptoms, health history, and relevant medical considerations before recommending treatment.
How is chiropractic treatment modified during pregnancy?
Treatment can be adapted as the body changes throughout pregnancy. Chiropractors can modify patient positioning, techniques, and the amount of pressure used to keep treatment comfortable and appropriate.
What pregnancy-related discomforts may chiropractic care address?
Pregnancy can place additional strain on the lower back, pelvis, hips, and surrounding muscles. Chiropractic care may help manage musculoskeletal discomfort and mobility concerns associated with these changes.
Do you offer postpartum chiropractic care?
Yes. Bergen Chiropractic offers postpartum chiropractic care for patients experiencing musculoskeletal concerns following pregnancy and childbirth.
Treatment is based on your symptoms, recovery, and individual needs.
When Should I See a Chiropractor?
Consider scheduling an evaluation if pain, stiffness, or limited mobility is interfering with your everyday life, work, exercise, or sports.
You may also benefit from an assessment if you have recurring symptoms, discomfort following an injury, or a musculoskeletal issue that is not improving as expected.
You don’t need to wait until pain becomes severe. An evaluation can help identify what may be contributing to your symptoms and determine whether chiropractic care, physical therapy, rehabilitation, or another form of care is appropriate.
When Should I See a Medical Doctor Instead?
Not every type of pain or injury should initially be treated with chiropractic care.
Seek urgent or emergency medical attention for symptoms such as severe trauma, chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness or paralysis, loss of consciousness, symptoms of a stroke, or loss of bladder or bowel control.
You should also speak with an appropriate medical provider if you have unexplained severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, signs of infection, or another concern that requires medical testing or treatment.
If our team determines during your evaluation that your condition requires care outside our scope, we can recommend that you seek the appropriate medical assessment.
