Frequently Asked Questions About Chiropractic Care
1. Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and Omnia plans, as well as Medicare plans.
We also work with many out-of-network insurance benefits. Our team is happy to verify your coverage and explain your benefits before your first visit.
Please note that we do not participate with Medicaid or HMO plans. If you have questions about your specific plan, call our office, and we will gladly assist you.
2. Do I need a referral or prescription to schedule?
For chiropractic care, a referral or prescription is not required. You may schedule directly with our office.
For physical therapy, a prescription is required. This can be provided by your primary care physician, a specialist, or one of our chiropractors if you are an established patient and physical therapy is clinically appropriate for your condition.
3. Why is the new patient appointment longer?
Your first visit is approximately 45 minutes because it includes a comprehensive evaluation and your first treatment.
During this appointment, we:
- Review your health history
- Perform a detailed orthopedic and neurological examination
- Identify the root cause of your condition
- Create a personalized treatment plan
- Begin treatment the same day when appropriate
Follow-up visits typically last 15 to 20 minutes, depending on your care plan.
4. What conditions do you treat?
We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions, including:
- Back pain and neck pain
- Sciatica
- Headaches and migraines
- Sports injuries
- Shoulder, knee, and joint pain
- Pregnancy-related discomfort
- Postural strain and work-related injuries
We also work closely with athletes and active individuals to improve mobility, performance, and injury prevention.
5. What makes Bergen Chiropractic different?
We combine evidence-based chiropractic care with in-house physical therapy for a comprehensive approach to recovery.
Our team focuses on:
- Identifying the underlying cause of pain
- Restoring proper joint and soft tissue function
- Strengthening and stabilizing affected areas

This integrated model allows for more complete and sustainable outcomes.
6. Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes. Chiropractic care is widely recognized as a safe and effective treatment for musculoskeletal conditions when provided by a licensed, trained chiropractor.
At Bergen Chiropractic, every treatment plan is customized to the individual patient after a thorough evaluation.
7. Will adjustments hurt?
Most patients experience relief after an adjustment. Some may feel mild soreness, similar to post-exercise soreness, especially during the early stages of care. This is temporary and typically resolves quickly as your body adapts.
8. How many visits will I need?
Treatment plans vary depending on:
- The severity of your condition
- How long the issue has been present
- Your activity level and overall health goals
After your initial evaluation, we provide a clear care plan outlining recommended frequency and expected duration.
9. Do you offer physical therapy in the office?
Yes. We have a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy on staff, allowing us to provide coordinated chiropractic and rehabilitation care in one location.
This collaborative approach helps streamline recovery and improve functional outcomes.
10. Can I receive treatment for a sports injury?
Absolutely. Our clinic has extensive experience treating athletes of all levels. We provide injury evaluation, rehabilitation, mobility training, and return-to-play support.
11. Do you treat pregnant patients?
Yes. Chiropractic care can help manage pregnancy-related discomfort, improve pelvic alignment, and support overall mobility during pregnancy. Care is modified appropriately for each stage of pregnancy.
12. What should I expect at my first visit?
You can expect:
- A detailed consultation
- A physical examination
- A clear explanation of findings
- A personalized care plan
- Treatment when appropriate
We prioritize patient education so you understand both your condition and your path to recovery.
13. When should I see a chiropractor?
You should consider scheduling an evaluation if you experience:
- Persistent back or neck pain
- Recurring headaches
- Joint stiffness or limited mobility
- Pain after an injury
- Discomfort affecting daily activities or athletic performance
Early intervention often leads to faster and more effective recovery.
